Pastor Frances W. Rosenau offered ashes to passersby on Ash Wednesday.
We begin our journey to Easter with the sign of ashes. This ancient sign speaks of the frailty and uncertainty of human life, and marks the penitence of this community.
I invite you, therefore, in the name of Christ, to observe a holy Lent by self-examination and penitence, by prayer and fasting, by reading and meditating on the Word of God, and by works of love.
~Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return~
Listen: God has spoken your name and loves the sound of it.
Listen: God has anointed you and blessed you for service.
Listen: God has heard your confession and loves your honesty.
Listen: God hears your concerns and embraces those in need.
Listen: God rejoices when we give thanks and urges us to be on the lookout for more opportunity for thanksgiving.
Listen: God has forgiven you and loves you back into life.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
